Our Friend the Black Bear

In today's animal news:
  • There are 900,000 black bears in North America.
  • Attacks on people by black bears are increasing (though still rare)
  • Most attacks are not by mothers with cubs (as is the case with grizzlies), but by males on the hunt who just want to eat you.
  • As with attacks by most predators, the worst thing you can do if a bear attacks you is to run away.
Have a nice day.

Unless, of course, you are certain you can run faster than your companions :)
