The Elkins A Site and Route 301 Archaeology in Delaware

This small cellar was just uncovered in New Castle County, Delaware. The site, known as Elkins A, dates to between 1700 and 1780. A certain John Greenwater bought the site in 1707 and this may be part of his house.

You can read a little more about the site here. Above, a white stoneware mustard pot from the Elkins A Site, and a selection of red earthenware vessels.

I am following this because the excavation is part of the Delaware US 301 project. I worked on this project last year and will probably be working there myself from about the beginning of August until the end of the year. The project has a blog, which you can see here, and to which I will be contributing once I start digging.
